9/11 Memorial Gives Survivor Tree Seedling to New York City Fire Museum

The New York City Fire Museum dedicated a seedling provided from the 9/11 Memorial’s Survivor Tree on Wednesday.

In a ceremony outside the New York City Fire Museum, representatives from the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and from the John Bowne High School in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens, steward of the Survivor Tree Seedling Program, were in attendance. The tree is dedicated to every FDNY member, first responder, and New Yorker who has perished as a result of illnesses attributed to the attacks of September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center.

A Callery pear tree became known as the “Survivor Tree” after enduring the September 11, 2001 terror attacks at the World Trade Center. The 9/11 Memorial gives seedlings from the Survivor Tree to communities who have committed to nurturing these trees to serve as landmarks symbolizing resiliency and hope. The Survivor Tree seedling program was launched on September 11, 2013, in partnership with Bartlett Tree Experts, of Stamford, Conn., and John Bowne High School.
