Ceremony Held to Honor Fallen Police Officers at the 9/11 Memorial
Approximately 250 cyclists descended on the 9/11 Memorial & Museum Wednesday morning for a ceremony honoring law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.
The bike ride, associated with Police Unity Tour, an organization in its 21st year, departed from the World Trade Center site. The ceremony on the Memorial plaza included reading of the names of all police officers killed on 9/11, followed by a pipe and drum accompaniment. NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill gave brief remarks.
Having grown into nine chapters, the Police Unity Tour consists of nearly 2,500 members nationwide who embark on memorial bike rides annually.
