A Tribute.

In a world now dark and gloomy,
In a world where people cry,
So many lost souls taken,
So many had to die,
Forever we will mourn them,
Forever we'll be numb,
The world will stand united,
Mourn together and be strong.

So many hearts are broken,
So many people torn,
Even those who aren't there,
Cannot help but mourn,
For we are all brothers and sisters,
No matter what we're told,
We will fight for peace and justice,
For those terrible scenes we saw unfold.

The world stands now in mourning,
People asking why,
How such cruel minded people
Felt that number had to die,
All because of hatred
Deeply planted in their souls,
Our hearts now numb and broken,
From the stories we've been told.

Forever we'll love those taken,
Love the people in our lives,
We don't know when we'll leave this earth,
Or who we'll lose in our time,
But lets please stand united,
In a time of grief and pain,
The whole world standing together,
As it's decided how they'll pay.

Our lives now changed forever,
Pain deep now in our hearts,
We must all pull together,
Not all break apart,
In our prayers forever,
Will be people involved,
Their family, friends and loved ones,
Who in our hearts we hold.

This poem is a tribute,
To the people that we've lost,
To the brave medics, police and firefighters,
Working to find those whom are lost,
And the untold heroes,
Who took charge on that day,
And got their colleagues from those buildings,
Their courage lighting our way.

Blessed should be these people,
Blessed should be those on those planes,
Who said their last I Love Yous
On that fateful day.
And blessed should be the workers,
And every innocent involved,
From the Pentagon to New York,
And their families mourning at home,
To all those who've been watching,
Their lives forever changed,
As views on life alter for eternity,
As we wait, and cry and pray.

Description

I wrote this poem two days after the attacks occurred on 9/11, to try and make sense of things after seeing the planes hit on television whilst I was home from Sixth Form. At the time it as circulated around various yahoo groups and was published in a British newspaper. It was written in my unmarried name, under which I have also sponsored a Cobblestone at the memorial site. I will never forget x
