There was once never a question of how to the heavens we reached so high,
Along with Lady Liberty and the Empire State Building, we ruled the skyline my partner and I.
The pinnacle of financial success we represented,
To this day it hurts so deeply how all that ended.
We fell hard and fast, acts of hate made sure we didn’t last.
Many innocents passed away inside our walls that day,
Their lives cut down without a word to say.
Those who escaped are haunted even now,
Their minds left with thoughts of “Why and how?”
Our military brother in D.C. was hit as well, if not for the heroes of United 93, the full extent of damage of that day, it’s hard to tell.
For the first time ever on live TV, terrorism at its core was viewed for all to see.
In the days and months following patriots came together for one cause,
And no longer would our freedoms be stuck on pause.
My partner and I, we were knocked down and could not rise,
But the fact a new one of us is now standing should not be a surprise.
Now we turns to I, and you can once again look high into the sky.
I am 1 World Trade Center; I am here now, and will be forever.
Like Jesus who makes all things new,
I stand tall once again for America, for you.

Description

This poem was written to pay respect to the fallen and their families, as well as survivors of the events of September 11, 2001. It also recognizes the rise of our nation with the manifestation of the new 1 World Trade Center. I am humbled and honored to present it.
