A widow smiles, she smiles with a pride
that she cannot hide
She smiles through her tears
for he is no more, her partner of many years
She knows she now has to live in pain and

wonders if her happiness she shall ever regain
A smile appears on her parted lips
as her morning cup of tea she sips
For those memories of his run so deep

So safely in her heart she shall forever keep
He appeared in her dreams last night
How sad indeed he was to see her plight
He came quietly and stood by her bed
planted a soft kiss on her head

You are now free my little dove
Its again time to have someone to love
I hate to see you dressed in white

seeing you thus is not a pretty sight
I shall come to see you as soon as I can -

Only remember, I shall have the face of another man
She woke to find herself asleep next to his uniform
wondered where it had come from

A widow smiled, she smiled with pride
A pride which she cannot hide
