SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

A morning filled with blue sky and sun,
September 11, 2001.
We will never forget that day when our innocence died,
a day so tragic most of the world cried.
It was the day the planes flew
and blew humanity apart,
shattering and breaking most everyone's heart.

Our minds were blown
as we watched everything unfold,
it was like the worst horror story ever told.
We were completely surprised
and could never have surmised
the massive destruction occurring before our very eyes.
What we had to see, how could this be?

Now when we hear a plane engine roar
it will never again sound as it did before.
A way of life was lost at such a high cost.
But by refusing to crumble we choose to win,
yet we can't help wonder will it happen again?

Though thousands died
and millions cried
on that late September morn
our nation was not torn, a strength was born.
While in minds and hearts
such evil could never really be understood
we dug out and rose up as best we could.

Still hard to recall
without shedding a tear
we eternally thank the heroes
who helped despite personal fear.
Forever the brave, forever the free,
never forget shall we
the day we all stood strong in unity.

Description

On that awful day 14 years ago my friend and I were talking to each other on the telephone. We had dropped our young children off at school and had some down time. We both had one of the National morning shows on in the background. Literally, out of the blue the World changed as our attention was drawn to the horrific events unfolding before our eyes on Live Television. Until this past summer I have never been able to articulate what I saw and felt.
